Falling In Love with the Physical Appearance of the Maltese TerrierMany people will find it hard not to fall in love at first sight of the Maltese terrier. It is a reason many people will choose it to be their pet. That small, white body and the face almost covered with hair will bring love from the owner for the entire duration of the dog’s life. There are different weights that are considered to be ideal for this dog, but it should be noted that it will remain light forever. Never will this dog get so big that it would be impossible to carry it. The Maltese terrier will remain a lapdog companion for its whole life, bringing joy into the hearts of its owner and all of the other people around it. The Main Attributes of a Maltese TerrierThere are several key attributes to this dog that make up its physical appearance. First of all, the silky white hair is the main characteristic of this dog. It has no undercoat and, on occasion, contains curly or woolly hair. The hair can either be kept extremely long and cover the entire body of the dog, leaving only the eyes and nose visible, or one can keep the hair cut short in what is called a “puppy” cut. This breed of dog has extremely dark eyes and a dark nose as well. The ears drop down on the small head, which happens to be a finger width wide. The body is compact, remaining as long as it is wide (which is not much). Adult Maltese terriers can weigh anywhere from three to ten pounds, but the American Kennel Club states that an ideal weight for this dog falls between four and eight pounds. These attributes certainly make the Maltese terrier a desired dog for many people. Some people just cannot get over how cute the small frame is and the dark eyes and tiny black nose. Some people also find the grooming of this dog extremely easy and get the Maltese for that reason. Another great reason to have this dog is the fact that it does not shed (many people with dogs already can tell you how important that could be). Other than taking the dog to the groomer’s to get a haircut every now and then, the up-keep of the physical appearance of this dog is generally low. One will have to give the Maltese a bath and clip its toenails, but that is something every dog owner must learn to do if he/she does not want torn furniture or skin. It is hard to deny that the physical appearance of the Maltese terrier is not very cute. The fact that it does not shed and requires general dog up-keep can make the Maltese very desirable to some. When choosing a dog for its looks, the Maltese is a dog that many people look to as a new pet. If someone has enough time on his/her hands so that enough care and attention can be paid to the dog, then the Maltese terrier could be right dog to choose. One must be sure though that one will not be away from home too often, resulting in separation anxiety for the dog. That can lead to the dog tearing up furniture in the home or barking almost non-stop until the owner arrives back at home. Other than that, the personality of the Maltese Terrier is very gentle and affectionate.
