No Bark Collars: What You Should Know

There are currently three types of no bark collars commonly used on dogs. All of them work, but there is some debate as to whether these collars are ethical to use. As a dog owner, you should know about the no bark dog collar you want to use on your noisy pet.

Spray Collars

Some no bark dog collars emit a citrus smell if the dog barks for long. Because the smell of citrus is not pleasant for dogs, they will eventually stop barking. These collars often come with a design that makes them give out a hissing sound before they release the citrus smell, so a dog that stops when it hears the sound can avoid the release of the smell. Professional dog trainers and veterinarians consider the use of these collars ethical, since the dog feels no pain and can even avoid the discomfort.

Ultrasonic/Sonic Dog Collars

These collars work by emitting a very high pitched sound when the dog barks. The sound is similar to the one of a dog’s whistle. Humans can’t hear this sound, but dogs can, and they soon learn to stop barking so that the sound goes away. Again, experts and trainers don’t feel that these collars are unethical, as there is no pain or injury to the dog. Dogs only get a bit annoyed, and they learn how to avoid that eventually. Note: This type of no bark collar is considered the least effective, as the dog can become used to the sound over time.

Electronic No Bark Collars

These collars work by delivering a small electrical shock to the dog’s neck whenever it starts barking. The shock isn’t painful, it’s similar to what you feel when you handle fabrics or walk over a rug. Due to its name, people think that this type of collar is cruel and unethical and shouldn’t be used on animals. This one isn’t just an annoyance; it physically does something to the dog. That’s why some animal lovers think that’s bad. Does the electronic no bark collar work? Usually it works great – so consider it an option if you have a barking dog.

To make a dog behave and reduce excessive barking, you can choose between spray collars, sonic collars, or electrical shock collars. Citrus spray collars and sonic collars are usually considered ethical, however, electrical sock collars are not universally accepted because some people think that they are painful to dogs. However, all three methods are perfectly safe for dogs.

no bark collars are a great way to reduce excessive barking that isn’t related to your dog’s health. Although most people don’t have a problem with them, some of them think shock collars are unethical. Nevertheless, all no bark dog collars are perfectly safe.
