Choosing Maltese Pups
The Maltese breed of dogs is considered quite an old breed. These are supposed to have originated from Malta, although there is no direct and conclusive evidence that they are really from Malta, except for the fact that they are named so. Maltese pups are born white and they grow up to have long and silky white hair. The length of their hair usually reaches the ground as the dog ages and constant grooming is necessary to prevent and avoid matting and tangles. Many of the breed owners prefer to have their Maltese dogs’ hair cut short to what is called a pup cut. This type of hair cut for the breed gives the adult dogs the look of Maltese pups.
Temperament And Behavior
The Maltese breed of dogs is known to be jovial and playful characters. Their playfulness is often carried and kept from their being Maltese pups well into their old age. This breed of dogs is a delight to have in the home since they like people and thrive in their attention and love. The Maltese love human contact and are usually treated as small children by some people. With the right socializing and training Maltese pups usually overcome their snappish nature to younger and smaller children. They do need to be supervised when playing solely with children due to their tendency to be short tempered with the smaller kids. Not all Maltese pups and adult dogs have this behavior and this behavior often arises when the children are boisterous or unkind towards them.
In accordance with their playful behavior, Maltese pups and adult dogs enjoy running around the house. They can be happy in a small yard or even in the confines of an apartment unit. Due to their small size, they do not need much space to exercise, which makes them ideal for city life. Many of theMaltese pups grow into adult dogs which adapt very well to the limited space that apartments and homes offer in the city. The dogs get excited when they are taken for a walk or run and even more so when they are released from the leash and let loose in a small yard.

The hair in the ears will grow long and silky, the same as the hair in the body. Maltese pups need to be supervised well as they grow up. Other than orienting the Maltese pup with smaller children to avoid unpleasant behavior, there is little that needs t be changed in a Maltese pup’s behavior.
Maltese pups have not much health problems and are considered as hypoallergenic dogs by many. This feature in the Maltese dogs is thanks to their lack of an undercoat which usually prevents shedding. This factor is important for many people who suffer from allergies all year round due to pet dander and shedding.
Choosing Maltese Pups
Choosing from many of the available Maltese pups may be difficult for many people. Here are some tips to choosing the right dog for you and your family. The behavior of the puppy may indicate what kind of dog it will grow up to be. Since Maltese pups grow to be playful and jovial dogs, it is safe to say that this is the kind of behavior that one should look out for when choosing one. This means thatMaltese pups with a straightforward attitude is preferable to pups that hide from people or may exhibit aggressive or defensive behavior to strangers. Aggressive and defensive behavior is out of character for Maltese dogs and this may result o more aggressive adult dogs or unstable ones which may turn out to be a threat to human safety.
Ideally, Maltese pups should be weaned from their mothers before they are sold or given. This should be around two three months of age. By this time, the color of their coat should be clear enough to see if there are any inconsistencies to its whiteness. While a light yellow tinge is admissible for some kennel shows as well as a light cream tinge, pure white is desirable.
